Designed to integrate directly with Windows Media Center the Philips PMC 7230 is a stylish device that just doesn’t stand a chance against the competition.
Because the portable device is meant to work directly with Windows Media Center the interface is familiar and easy to use. You can record directly from your computer to the portable. However, the device doesn’t include a radio, removable disk storage or podcast support.
It supports the standard MP3 and WMA music formats, including protected Plays for Sure music, and is only compatible with JPG images. However, it supports several video formats including AVI, WMV and ASF. One of the largest complaints we have with this player is all the files have to be converted using the provided “conversion software.” You can’t just transfer songs and videos directly to the player.
Physically this portable media player is on the right track. It has a 3.5 in screen and only weighs 8.3 ounces. The battery has about 16 hours of audio life and three hours video. Neither is terribly impressive.
